Anyone can create a profile and start posting for their business. They may get a few follows from friends, family, and loyal customers but not much traction after that. We’re at the point now where the number of followers you have doesn’t automatically make you successful. What matters now is engagement.
Engagement is measured by the public shares, likes, and comments for social media posts. The more engagement, the more people are going to see your post. Under every one of your Facebook posts, there is an engagement button where you can view all the engagements on that post. Here’s an example from one of ours:
What makes a post great is having meaningful CONTENT worthy of engagement from your followers. So how exactly do we cut through the cut through the clutter of the digital world and create content consumers want?
Have a purpose with your posts.
Before creating a post think about what you’re trying to do. Are you trying to entertain? Are you trying to inspire? Are you trying to educate? Your posts need to bring some type of value to consumers so think carefully about what message you’re trying to send and post accordingly.
Your posts need to have a human touch to see engagement. This can mean adjusting your content to what is going on in the world. With situations such as COVID or other significant events, it may mean pausing whatever content you had planned and posting something that reflects what’s happening. Consumers want to surround themselves with content that speaks to how they’re currently feeling. On a smaller scale, this means that if it’s Friday, post about the weekend.
Giveaways are one of the fastest ways to create engagement! People love receiving free stuff and it ensures that your page will have a lot of traffic. Our favorite way for people to enter giveaways is to like the page and to tag friends in the comments of the giveaway post. The more tags, the more entries they get. This ensures that a ton of people will see the giveaway and your page, and you’ll get a bunch of new followers in the process. Another great giveaway tip is to partner with other businesses and see if they can donate products or services. A literal win-win for everyone!
Show the face running the account! Show your employees, show you customers, heck, even show your dog. Consumers want to see behind the scenes. Don’t be afraid to show your funny side with candid posts (like Jenelle chilling in the fridge).
This is one of the most effective ways to open up your posts for two way communication. These posts invite conversation and have a clear and friendly “talk to us” message. Ask your followers for their ideas, opinions, advise, or to tell their story. It can be as simple as asking what their vacation plans are, or asking if they would like to see you offer a new product or service.
Good content takes time. It takes thought and planning. Don’t get discouraged if your posts don’t do as well as expected because any type of content is better than nothing. Happy posting!
